At the Apache-Sitgreaves Observatory, no one gets a paycheck.
Not the Staff Astronomer, not even the 36-inch telescope operator.
Every product on the Home page keeps ASO funded.
We appreciate your purchases helping a good cause.
This last winter, 2024, the Apache-Sitgreaves Observatory underwent
some on-going maintenance for a science project monitoring
T Coronae Borealis (T CrB), a recurring Nova, and two other stellar phenomenon.
Monitoring these types of stars provide useful insight into their behavior,
and there is the ongoing Supernovae detection project with the telescope
set up for science.
Due to this there will be no public programs while these projects are ongoing.
We conduct astronomical research that benefits Humanity.
Namely, supernova (SNe) patrol and spectroscopic determination of
the type of SNe, which are used as Standard Candles in
determining parameters regarding our Universe.
Please help the ongoing research by purchasing items from our website,
or by making a donation....
Our Location;
We are located on top of the Colorado Plateau in Northern Arizona along
with other significant astronomical resources like Lowell Observatories
in Flagstaff and Anderson Mesa, and the 4.2-meter Discovery Channel
Telescope in Happy Jack, the Apache-Sitgreaves Observatory in Overgaard,
Arizona is located at a world class dark sky site at just under 7000 feet elevation
We have access to World-Class dark skies for our research using the only
large aperture telescope in Navajo County.
Our Skies;
The skies are not only extremely dark but very transparent,
with sub-arc second seeing on most nights.
